Verline Luthringer, 84, of Karnes City passed away November 6 in Kenedy. She was born Apr. 15, 1926, in Clareville, Texas, to Verley Matheson and Ida Willms Matheson.

Verline graduated from Texas A&I University and began a teaching career that lasted for more than 35 years, having taught in Karnes City many of those years. She married Dick Robert Luthringer on May 25, 1947, in Mathis, Texas. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Karnes City; she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; she was a member of the Karnes County Retired Teachers Association; she was also a member of the Karnes City Duplicate Bridge Club; and she was a Red Hatter.

She is survived by her son Robert Lynn Luthringer and his wife Kathy of Katy, Texas; daughters, Linda Bettin of Karnes City; and Lisa Hays and husband James of Karnes City; brother Bill Matheson of Mathis; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Verline will be missed by many including her dog Nickel.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Dorothy Leffingwell, and Clarice McGuffin; and brother Bartley Matheson. Funeral services were held 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 10, at the First Baptist Church in Karnes City, followed by interment in the Karnes City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Bettin, Hayden Hays, Landon Hays, Joshua Vaughn, Fernando Zaragoza, and James Schaefer. Pastor Jay Fleming officiated.
