Valencia Celes Macias recently donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love.

The new hair style was cut by hair stylist Dana Torres of New Creations in Kenedy.

The fifth-grade Pawnee ISD student is 11 years old and said she was inspired to cut her long hair at this particular time with the upcoming Live Oak County Relay For Life set for April 29 in George West.

She is an active participant in this yearly event and does so in memory of her aunt, Guadalupe Olvera, who died of cancer in 2000 at the young age of 38.

She also walks in honor of two great-aunts who are cancer survivors, Mary Ochoa and Sofia Zambrano, both of Three Rivers.

Valencia is the daughter of Valentin and Linda Macias Jr. of Pawnee.
