State Trooper Gerald Bryant conducted his 27th Bike Rodeo at Austwell-Tivoli ISD Monday.

The long-time trooper warmly recalled his Bike Rodeos at the now defunct elementary school in Austwell and the green mold and bat-infested old elementary school in Tivoli. He remembers superintendent, Dr. Antonio Aguirre, as a young teacher.

Coach Eric Cortez remembered winning the bike rodeo when he was a third and fourth grade student at the old Austwell Elementary.

“Times have changed but not the trooper’s enthusiasm,” said Stephen Maldonado, principal. “He does a great job of promoting bike safety and encouraging kids to stay fit by exercising.”

Though the number of bike rodeo contestants is slightly smaller this year, the principal said the kids still had a good time showing off their bike-riding skills.
