TIVOLI–Antonio Garza Jr., 83, died Thursday, Aug. 18. He was a retired foreman for Refugio County Drainage District #1. He was one of the founders of the Refugio County Youth Rodeo Club, a Tivoli Volunteer Fire Chief for 20 years, and Tivoli First Responder for 10 years.

He was born to Antonio and Reyes Garza on Oct. 26, 1927, on La Copita Ranch, in Jim Hogg County.

He is preceded in death by four sisters, Maria Cantu, Isabel “Chavela” Tijerina, Bertha Vela, Magarita Aguilar; and two brothers, Lionel Garza and Israel Garza, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dora Linda Vela Garza of Tivoli; two daughters and spouses, Linda and Greg Duenez of Tivoli, and Brenda Lee and John Brotherton of Round Rock; two sons, Eliberto “Candy” Eloy Garza and wife Darlene of Tivoli, and Jorge Garza of Santa Ana, Calif.; two sisters, Elida Garcia, of Beeville, and Maria Rubio of Santa Maria, Calif.; one brother, Noe Garza, of Edinburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. at Artero Memorial Chapels.

A rosary was recited on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. The date of a Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.
