The Boys and Girls Club of Refugio County received several early Christmas gifts in December.

First, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation awarded an operation grant in the amount of $7,500. This money can be used for the day-by-day operation of the Club.

Valero Refinery included the Refugio County Club in their 2008 Gifts to Children’s Charities. Thirty-three different organizations devoted to children were awarded various amounts to use for specific projects.

The local club received $10,000 to continue the upgrade and repairs on the clubhouse.

The Kathryn O’Connor Foundation announced a grant effective for June 2009 to support the club’s summer programs. The club is open daily from 9 to 5 in the summer.

This grant will help us provide the programs of lunches, sports activities, arts and crafts, enriching field trips, speakers and other activities not available during the school year, according to Nan Linney, board member.

“It is through the generosity of organizations like these and the support of our local citizens that we are able to operate and provide quality programs for the children of our community,” Linney said.
