The team also won their home tournament over the weekend, beating Three Rivers and Taft.
Coach Jacob Ray said the Banquete contest was tough.
“Refugio won 44-25 but the game was close until the third quarter when Refugio outscored the Bulldogs by a score of 21-4,” Ray said.
Anthony Villarreal led the scoring with 19 points, with 13 scored in the third quarter.
Jonathan Brown chipped in 11 points, with Travis Quintanilla adding six and Daniel Ochoa, four.
Travis and JB sparked the offense all night by pushing the ball up the floor and leading the fastbreak.
Both the seventh grade boy’s teams will play this Saturday, Jan.17, in the Sinton Tournament with their first game being played at 9:30 a.m.
The Bobcats have a home district game on Monday, Jan. 19, at 5 p.m. against Odem.
In tournament play over the weekend, the Bobcats won their first game against Taft, 43-16. Villarreal led all scorers with 14 points and was followed by J. Brown with 11.
Ochoa chipped in six, Devon LaFrance, four, Quintanilla and Andre Williams added three each and Marquiz Brown had two points.
In the championship game against Taft, the Bobcats won 35-10. J. Brown led the scoring with nine points followed by Quintanilla with eight points.
Ochoa had a solid game with seven points and was the tournaments highest re-bounder.
Quintanilla and Williams both had four points and Shane Jochetz added three points.
Villarreal was voted as the tournament MVP and J. Brown was selected to the all-tourney team.
In the game against Bloomington, the Cats kept the ball moving.
“I am extremely pleased with the way these kids run the floor,” said Coach Jacob Ray. “They share the ball a lot better than most teams at this age. They play great defense and do not play selfish. Right now, that is our key to winning.”
Defensive standouts were Villareal, Juan Ramirez and LaFrance.
J. Brown led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Ochoa with 12.
Quintanilla and J. Brown led the team in assists.
