REFUGIO – Julia Garcia, 97, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2011. She was a retired housekeeper.

She was born in Refugio on Dec. 6, 1913, to Claudio and Augustina Fierova Garcia.

She is preceded in death by her parents: sons, Ernest Garcia, Reynaldo Garcia, and Johnny Lee; sisters Lupe Garcia, Lydia Garcia, Annita Gonzales and Senovia Rocha; brothers, Claude Garcia and Lucas Garcia; granddaughter, Mary Ann Canchola; and grandson, Fred “BooBoo” Canchola III.

Survivors include by her daughter, Viola Canchola and husband Fred of Refugio; son, Carlos Lee of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Genevieve and Guadalupe Gonzalez, both of San Antonio; one brother, Joaquin Garcia of San Antonio; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1-5 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home Chapel and from 5-8 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday. Oct. 10, at St. James Catholic Church.
