Refugio Lady Cats host Pink Night in support

REFUGIO — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month the Refugio High School gym was transformed into a sea of Pink for the Lady Cats annual “Pink Night” match against the San Diego Lady Vaqueros.

In a show of good sportsmanship, both teams sported pink T-shirts and played the match with a pink ball along with participating in some pre-game festivities together.

The Lady Cats swept the visiting Lady Vaqueros. The JV 1 team took the match 25-9; 25-20 and the varsity match was 25-14; 25-20 and 25-14.

Lexy Hawthorne let the team with 15 assists; Jackie Gonzalez, 7; Marcela Leal, 1.

Michelle Rosas earned 4 aces; Gonzalez, 3; Hawthorne, Alicia Canchola, and Lacey Sanders, 2 each; each and Paige Shay, 1. Gonzalez led the team with 10 kills; Michelle Rosas, 10; Megan Shaw, 10

Rosas led with 15 digs; Marcela Leal, 10; Gonzalez, 9; Hawthorne, and Sanders 8 each; Irene Gallegos, 7; and Kierstan Camacho, 1.

“The Lady Cat volleyball team would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans that supported the serve-a-thon, Parker Lumber for their donation and especially to those that contributed to the Honorary Tribute on the back of their shirts,” said Coach Selina Hemphill. “Pink Night was a great success because of the fans and the community support.”
