No. 1 ranked Refugio Bobcats blast Hebbronville Longhorns

The undefeated Bobcats blasted through the Hebbronville Longhorns with a 69-13 win last Friday night.

The Cats rolled up 521 yards of total offense, and continued their quest for the district crown. The defense held the Longhorns to 218 total yards.

In the first quarter Travis Quintanilla hooked up with Lynx Hawthorne on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Adolfo Cordero booted the extra point to make the score 7-0.

Refugio next visited the end zone with Shiloh Whetsel scoring from 49 yards out. Shiloh Whetsel ran for 132 yards on 6 carries on the night and caught 3 passes for another 50 yards.

The Bobcats scored all three touchdowns in the second quarter with passing plays from Quintanilla. The first was a 26-yard pass to Draigon Silvas who gained 31 yards on the ground and 26 yards from receptions in the game.

The second was a pass to Cory Brown for a 10-yard score. Finally with 2:47 left in the first half, Quintanilla connected with Marcus Thompson on a 16-yard touchdown pass to make the score 35-0 at halftime.

The Bobcats scored 20 points in the third period with the first coming off a 10-yard run by Malcolm Franklin at the start of the quarter. Draigon Silvas scored from two yards out and Shiloh Whetsel scored on a 12-yard run.

The Longhorns finally made it to the end zone near the end of the quarter to make the score 55-7.

Hebbronville struck first in the fourth quarter and the Bobcats answered back with J.B. Brown running 18 yards for a Refugio touchdown.

Refugio put the game away late in the quarter with Quintanilla targeting Dana Franklin from 17 yards out to make it a 69-13 victory for the Cats.

Quintanilla had a stellar night, completing 14 of 16 passes for 256 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Bobcats return home to face Premont for Homecoming this Friday in Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
