CORPUS CHRISTI – The Pettus Lady Eagles did better than expected and ran away with the District 31-A cross country title on Monday.

“I was pleased with the girls’ performance. We set out to finish in the top three so that the team could advance to the Region IV meet,” said coach Erica Garza.

“We weren’t expected to win but with a group of girls like these, losing is not an option.”

Leading the way with an individual district championship was Lady Eagle Savannah Delbosque with a time of 13:58 over the two-mile course. Chole Garza was second overall in 14:13.

Lady Eagle Tristan Moore was fourth in 14:56. Celeste Sims placed 11th in 15:15 and she led a small pack of Lady Eagles as Madeline Garza was close behind her in 12th at 15:17 and teammate Miranda Arrisola was 13th overall in 15:22.

Anna Elder ran to a 20th place finish among the 48 runners with a time of 16 minutes flat.

The Port Aransas girls placed second overall with the Falls City Beaverettes in third.

“They know what it takes to win – hard work. They ran well throughout the race and all had excellent finishes to put the team ahead of a competitive Port Aransas team,” Garza said.

The Eagles had two runners competing in the boys’ division. Anthony Ramirez placed 28th with a time of 24 minutes over the 5,000-meter course at West Guth Park. Christian Hunter was 29th in 25:06 for the approximately three-mile event.

Port Aransas captured the boys’ division with Ben Bolt in second and Santa Maria in third.

The Region IV meet is scheduled for Nov. 5 in San Antonio.
