REFUGIO – Elton David Coward Jr 65, of Refugio, died Friday, Nov. 4 2011. Coward graduated from A & I University and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, and a member of Texas Coastal Conservation Association. He was a ranch foreman for Melon Creek Ranch.

He was born Aug. 3, 1946, to Elton David Sr. and Dorothy Turman Coward.

Survivors include his wife, Joni Coward of Rockport; stepson, Charles Branum of Brantley, Ala.; step-daughter, Shannon Ammons of Birmangham, Ala.; sister, Denise Coward Rogers of Uvalde; niece, Mary Kate Rogers of San Antonio; and 6 step-grandchildren.

A rosary was recited Sunday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at Moore Funeral Chapel in Refugio.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial was in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tom Allen, Ronnie Adrian, Michael Murphy, Buck Kelley, Jack Frankenhouser, Blaine Weiss, Mike McGuill and Vial Guevarra.

Honorary pallbearers are Harold Krech, John Rogers, Dr. Tim Rainey, Dr. John Merrill, Paul Rainey, Chris Rainey, Howard Ham, and Ray Ory.
