REFUGIO — A local woman is accused of going on a crime spree at various businesses in Refugio, leaving a trail of clues.

Shanell Tilley, 36, was arrested on Nov. 9 and charged with forgery of a financial instrument against an elderly person.

She remains incarcerated in the county jail pending bond.

Tilley is accused of passing 15-30 checks at H-E-B, Texas Star, Jugs-n-Jiggers and in Victoria.

The arrest was made following a two-week investigation by Officer Ray John Silvas and Investigator Danny Madrigal.

The investigator said approximately $3,500 worth of checks belonging to Tilley’s grandmother were passed at the various businesses.

Tilley is facing 15-30 counts of forgery, according to Madrigal.
