AUSTIN — Izac Canchola of Refugio trained with four-time Olympian Amy Acuff during a high-jump clinic in Austin on Jan. 22.

Hosted by USATF at St. Michael’s in Austin, the clinic provided training in techniques. A 5-year AAU Junior Olympian, Izac is currently preparing for the Junior Olympics hosted this year in Houston from July 25 through Aug. 4.

“Hopefully, the training will help him jump a little bit higher,” said his mother, Gloria Canchola.

Acuff is a six time USA Outdoor champion and a four-time Olympian, finishing 4th at the 2004 Olympic Games. She is also the five-time U.S. Indoor champ, three-time NCAA Indoor champion, two-time NCAA Outdoor champion, and the 1997 World University Games champion.

Izac said of Acuff, “I didn’t realize how tall she is.”
