Jr. High Lady Cats trample Lady ’Hounds

TAFT – Hitting the road once again, the junior high Lady Cats traveled to Taft to hit the hardwood and brought home double victories.

The 7th grade Taft team came after the Lady Cats and put points on the board first, sparking a fire and the Lady Cats responded.

With the score tied after the first quarter, the Cats managed to take the lead and keep the Whippets scoreless in the second quarter. The Cats and lead at the halftime break 11-6. At the final buzzer, Refugio defeated Taft 18-14.

Taylon Tuttle scored 9 points followed by Bralyn Fox-Smith with 6; Paige Gonzalez, 2; and Clara Aguirre, 1.

Defensive players for Refugio are Kelsey Lawson, Kaci Moehr, and Marlen Padron. The seventh graders now stand at 6-1.

The 8th grade Lady Cats also brought home a 25-14 victory. Taft’s 8th grade team also scored first and took the first quarter. The Lady Cats woke up and took the lead by eight at the half, 14-6.

Refugio held on to their lead despite some injuries. Kaitlyn Valderrama led with 12 points; Destinee Wiliams, 6; Ally Upton, 4; Loren Castellano, 2; and Abby Shay, 1.
