REFUGIO — The Refugio Country Opry will welcome Ed Gary, Keith Magel, Scott Decker and American Idol John Waye Schultz at the Refugio Country Opry on Thursday March 1, at the Expo Center along with the award-winning Country Opry Band.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7.

Of the 256,000 American Idol contestants, John Wayne Schultz made the top 40. Since then, he’s been packing the house at country music shows across South Texas.

County residents will have the opportunity to see the talented Karnes City native.

The Fierova family provides an excellent food court of burgers, plates of Monterey chicken with all the trimmings, and desserts. Like the Opry, all their net proceeds go toward a scholarship fund for graduating seniors.

“Come early and eat with us,” Haertig said. “We need the support of our local people. Come help us provide much needed scholarships for your children and grandchildren. Please come out and support the Opry, it’s a lot of show for $5.”

The monthly contry music show has given away more than $50,000 in scholarships to the three high schools in Refugio County through their years of entertainment.

If you need directions or information, call Jay or Opal at 361-543-4297 or 550-3212, also Neal or Linda at 361-543-4924, after 5 p.m.
