Kenedy city council calls for election

KENEDY – The Kenedy City Council voted to call for and order a general election for mayor and city council members in districts 2 and 4 during the monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Council Members also approved City Hall remaining open on April 30 through May 1 for early voting.

The council agreed to a contract to have Karnes County run the election for both early voting and Election Day May 12.

Council Members approved a proposed Kenedy 4B Sales Tax Corporation 2011-2012 budget amendment to allocate $16,000 to drill and equip an irrigation water well at Joe Gulley Park.

The city council approved a site development plan including special use permit request for apartment units for the Kenedy Energy Complex Development Project located at 321 South 4th Street.

The permit will be used to renovate the old school building and to build apartments on the old football field.

Council members approved an ordinance adopting a hotel-motel occupancy tax rate of seven percent.

The city council voted to enact a requirement for debris disposal plan prior to the issuance of a building permit for construction and renovation projects.

Council Members voted to authorize the city’s execution of a special warranty deed on described delinquent tax sale properties as approved by the Kenedy Independent School District Board of Trustees.

Council members approved an agreement with Marathon Oil Company regarding water well no. 15.

Marathon is participating with the City of Kenedy to drill a new water well. The agreement outlines the obligations of both parties.
