Refugio eighth grader, at left, Kaitlyn Valderrama and seventh grader Clara Aguirre both earned a superion No. 1 rating on their solos at UIL Contest at Texas A&M in Kingsville on Feb. 25. Kaitlyn who plays flute also earned sixth chair out of 70 flute players who auditioned for the Region Band in the fall. Clara plays clarinet. Band Director Nancy Hesch said both students work hard and are talented musicians.
