Refugio 7th boys took top honors at the Sinton tournament over the weekend.

“The competition was much tougher but the outcome was the same for the young Bobcats,” said Coach Jacob Ray.

In the first game of the day, Refugio played Sinton. For the first time all season, the boys trailed at halftime, 15-12.

After a few halftime adjustments, Refugio out scored Sinton 26-9 in the second half. The final score was 38-24.

Anthony Villareal led the scoring with 12 points, followed by Travis Quintanilla’s nine second-half points.

Andrew Williams scored 6; Jonathan Brown, 5; Devon LaFrance, 3; and Marquis Brown, 2.

In the championship game Refugio faced the Cuero Gobblers.

Refugio trailed going into the fourth quarter before they exploded for 19 points.

“The outcome was not decided until the final minute of the game,” the coach said.

The final score was Refugio 41, Cuero 35.

J. Brown scored 17 points; and Villareal added 12 into he championship game. Williams added two 3-point baskets for 6 points. Dalton Klare, LaFrance and Quintanilla finished with 2 points each.

The seventh grade will face the Odem Owls at home today, (Thursday, Jan. 22) at 5 p.m.
