Freshmen Bobcats capture tournament championship

The Freshmen Bobcats captured the tournament championship at the Refugio Freshmen Basketball Tournament was held this weekend. Donald Trevino was named most valuable player and Jarred Contreras earned all-tournament honors for the Bobcats.

Teams from Aransas Pass, Goliad, and Gregory-Portland participated.

In the first game Refugio defeated Goliad, 29-22. Leading the Bobcats’ scoring game were Trevino with 18 points, Contreras, 6; Chris Stephens, 3; and Carlos Arredondo, 2.

Defensive leaders included Justin Franklin, Evan Klaevemann, and Thomas Ramirez.

“In the championship game the Bobcats played a great defensive game on their way to capturing the championship over the Gregory-Portland Wildcats,” said Coach Cody Reeves.

Leading the Bobcats once again was Trevino with 18 points, Arredondo and Contreras, 6 points each; and Franklin, 2.

The Bobcats who helped shut down the defensive include Klaevemann, Ramirez, Chris Stephens, and Richard Tuttle.
