PETTUS – The Kenedy Lions jumped out to an early lead and then coasted by the Eagles 12-1 in seven innings on Friday night.

The visitors put up six big runs in the top of the second to break the game open. The teams settled into a scoreless battle through the next two frames before the Lions added a single run in the top of the fifth. It was a 7-0 ball game at that point.

The Eagle bats never got going until the bottom of the seventh, and by then it was a 12-0 contest. The Lions scored two runs in the sixth and added three more in the final frame to grab the big lead.

The Eagles broke up the shutout with a single run in the bottom of the seventh as Clay Brown reached on a walk and came around to score on a Taylor Yeoman hit.

Yeoman went 3-4 on the night with a double and the lone RBI for the Eagles. Ryan Beck had two hits in three trips. Anthony Mendoza and Lane Kruger each had one hit in three plate appearances.

Colby Gonzales took the loss on the mound for the Eagles.

The Pettus boys entertained the Port Aransas Marlins on Tuesday evening and traveled to Woodsboro on Friday night to battle the other Eagles.
