Red Fish win district tourney

TIVOLI — The Varsity Austwell-Tivoli Tennis team won the championship at the Nordheim Tennis Tournament last week.

The boys team of Jonathan Rees and Garek Duenez defeated everyone they faced in dominating fashion to win first place in the district tournament.

Jarrett Rees and Loryn Hernandez fought their way from the third place game to end up in a play back with a team from Tilden.

Jarrett Rees and Hernandez defeated Tilden in the play back to clinch second place.

Samuel Farias, Duenez, Jonathan Rees, Jarrett Rees, and Hernandez will all head to College Station to represent Austwell-Tivloi School in the Regional Tournament this week.

Farias placed second in boys singles loosing a hard fought match against a boy from Bruni.

The Red Fish boys team consists of Duenez, Farias, Joseph Longoria, Tim Mahoney, Jarrett Rees, Jonathan Rees and Devin Wolfshohl.

The next closest team for the over-all team title was Bruni.

“Individually the Red Fish and Lady Red Fish represented their school well,” said coach Zach Crawford.

In girls doubles, Celeste Alvarado and Ashley Cisneros placed fourth, loosing to a good Runge team and then a good Moulton team.

Samuel Joseph Longoria and Lauren Kelso placed fourth in mixed doubles, loosing to a Tilden team, then to the other Austwell-Tivoli team for third place.

“Good luck to the players as they look to dominate at the next level,” Crawford said.

JV tennis

Haley Newton and Sean Worley won first in mixed doubles; Deshea Hernandez and Jose Salinas earned second in mixed doubles; and Strider Pressley won second in boys singles.

A-TJH tennis

The Austwell-Tivoli Junior High tennis team dominated the Nordheim tournament Saturday.

Kathleen Hopper and Ashlee Sims placed first in girls doubles. Kenzi Simmons and Teah Camacho placed second in girls doubles.

Kenzi Simmons and Fred Harr placed first in mixed doubles. Sergio Ruiz placed third in boys singles.

Ismael Perez and Eric Garcia placed first in boys doubles. Josh Maddux and Nathan Tijerina placed third in boys doubles. Other participants included Xavier Garcia and Xavier Martinez.

“I am very proud of the junior high tennis team,” said coach Zach Crawford. “The Red Fish and Lady Red Fish competed very well against the other teams at the tournament.”
