Sometimes it’s tough to get your shooting-eye aligned right on the road. The Pettus Lady Eagles found that to be true on Friday night as they lost a tough 49-35 tilt to the Falls City Beaverettes.

“We played a great game defensively and handled the Beaverette pressure well, but our shots just wouldn’t fall,” said Lady Eagle head coach Darcy Siddon.

The home team jumped to an 11-7 lead at the end of one quarter and doubled that to a 25-17 advantage by halftime. The Lady Eagles got two points back in the third period but still trailed 33-27.

The Beaverettes scored 16 in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach and they captured a 49-35 victory.

Lindsay P. led the Pettus scoring with 12 points and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. Tori Garza and Sarah Gill each had eight points. Jessica Stanley helped out with seven points and five caroms. Paige Fox had a big game defensively with six rebounds, six steals and two assists on offense.

The two teams entered the match with identical 3-0 district records. Pettus falls to 3-1 over the first round of district play while the Beaverettes remain the top team in district at 4-0.

The Lady Eagles entertained the Port Aransas Lady Marlins on Tuesday evening to begin the second round of district play. Friday night the Lady Eagles will travel to meet Corpus Christi’s John Paul II Academy.
