The Refugio County Retired School Personnel gives three scholarships each year to a deserving student in each of the three school districts in the county. Austwell-Tivoli ISD, Refugio ISD, and Woodsboro ISD.

This year the organization will hold a raffle for two prizes to raise money for the scholarships.

An original watercolor paining by renowned artist Gwen Branstetter of Refugio is one prize. The other is a two-volume set of signed books by decorated war correspondent and author Joseph Galloway.

The paining is called “Some Repairs Needed.” This is a large painting which measures 24”x30” framed. The painting is a rural scene with an old barn and a windmill.

The set of signed books are authored by native Refugio Countian Galloway and Lt. General Hal Moore. The books are “We Were Soldiers Once and Young” and “We Are Soldiers Still” The books are the accounts of events during the Vietnam war and a return to the battlefield.

The tickets for the raffle are $1 each and six for $5. The tickets can be purchased from any member of RCRSP and will be on sale during the fair from March 12-14, in the exhibition center.

The drawing will be held on Saturday, March 14.
