REFUGIO – The Refugio County Community Cemetery of Refugio will sponsor a Tiny Tot Pageant at the annual Juneteenth Celebration.

The pageant will be held Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. in the Expo Center at the fairgrounds.

“We’re very excited about this new event that has been added to our Juneteenth Celebration,” said Patty Lewis, event organizer. “We believe it will be fun for everyone.”

Boys and girls 5-7 years old are encouraged to participate. The children will be judged on appearance, beauty, personality, individuality, confidence and projection on stage.

“No experience is necessary, only smiles and enthusiasm,” Lewis said. “We do not have a long list of strict rules and regulations. We want the kids to be kids. We know they are still young so we encourage them to just be themselves.”

The pageant is not restricted to any particular race and all children are encouraged to participate. Out-of-town entries will also be accepted.

The total entry fee for the pageant is $30. The participants will be judged in dress-up wear, swimwear, talent, interview and most photogenic.

Each contestant will submit a photo up to size 5x7 which will be judged for the photogenic competition. The photo must be sent along with the entry form and fee.

Children will compete with their own age group and each age group will have a winner. Winners will receive a trophy, crown and sash.

All contestants will receive a trophy for participating.

Out-of-town participants may contact Patty Lewis or Wanda Dukes for more information or to obtain an entry form through the mail or by fax. Forms may be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce, Celestine’’s Barber Shop or Deborah’s Beauty Shop. A list of rules will accompany the entry form.

The deadline for entering the pageant in May 30. No late entries will be accepted.

The celebration will continue on Saturday, June 16, with Gospel singing, praise dancing, kiddie BINGO, a watermelon eating contest and silent auction.
