The “A” team of eighth-graders pushed their record to 15-0 on the season and a perfect 6-0 record in district play with just one game left on the schedule.
The final in the “A” game was all Beeville at 51-15. Randi Maupin led the way offensively with 24 points. Heather McKinney had nine markers and Victoria Elizalde followed with eight. Theresa Amador tallied five in the win and Lynnisa Puente completed the Lady Trojans’ scoring with three.
“The girls played an intense defensive game. The girls stepped up and offensively controlled the ball to come out with a victory,” said MMS coach Nidia Barrera.
The “B” team eighth-graders followed the “A” team’s example. The local ladies captured a 19-13 victory that gave them a perfect 9-0 season record and a 6-0 district mark.
Reba Trejo led the team in scoring with eight points. Brianna Jackson followed with six. Erika Martin and Taylor Jones both had two in the win. Celeste Contreras was good on one free throw.
“Our girls are so close (to a perfect season) they can smell victory, but Flour Bluff will not be easy. They had a close call with G-P and realize there is no room for mistakes,” said MMS coach Sonia Cano.
The seventh-grade “A” team lost to G-P on Monday 29-12 to give them a 7-8 overall record and a 3-3 district record.
Lisa Tamez and Alyssa Bates shared the scoring honors for the Beeville girls with six points apiece.
“Bad passing killed us the whole game, especially on the press break,” said coach Linda Luna.
The “B” team dropped their tilt with the young Ladycats 13-4. Wendy Castillo and Tori Camacho split the Beeville scoring.
“The girls had a terrible night on Monday. With a weak defense and an uncoordinated offense, we looked like it was our very first game on the court. We have a lot of work to do if we hope to be competitive against Flour Bluff next week,” said MMS coach Amber Thompson.
The Moreno teams will close out their season next Monday in Flour Bluff against the Lady Hornets.
The contests will start at 5 p.m.
