A cold-shooting third quarter doomed the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats to a 46-41 loss to the Refugio Bobcats on Tuesday night in Skidmore.

The loss puts the S-T overall mark at 6-20 and 0-4 in district play.

“We played really well for most of the game. We struggled to make some shots as well with free-throws. We had opportunities to win and the guys never gave up,” said head coach Darrell Hesseltine.

The S-T ‘Cats worked well over the first two quarters and led 17-12 at the end of the first. They took a 25-24 advantage into halftime.

Someone must have left a door open at the start of the third quarter as the S-T shooting turned ice-cold. The home tem managed just two points in the third, giving the visiting Bobcats a chance to gain the lead and they went up by 36-27 by the end of the third period. The S-T boys fought back and narrowed the gap to five by the end of the contest.

The S-T Bobcats were led by 16 points from Gavin Vandever. Five three-pointers and one free throw got Vandever his 16 tallies. Conner McCarn added 15 points in the loss. Chris Patrova provided six and Cody Chambers finished with four.

The Bobcats were in Odem last night (Friday) and will be on the road for two games next week.

Tuesday night the Bobcats will be at Taft and the boys will travel to Banquete next Friday evening.
