The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cat varsity basketball team raised its season record to 20-9 on Tuesday night with a 56-28 home win over district foe Refugio.

The win keeps the S-T girls undefeated in district this season at 6-0 and runs their district winning streak to 20 straight over the last three seasons.

The Lady Cat defense led the way and generated several offensive opportunities in the first two quarters.

“The girls got off to an excellent start in this game and they did an great job of playing defense,” said Lady Cat head coach Joseph Grimes III.

It was already a blowout by halftime as S-T was in front by 25 points at 36-11. The teams played a little closer in the second half, but the S-T girls added three more points to their lead and captured the tilt at 56-28, doubling up on the Refugio girls.

Ashley Scott and Sagan Gabbert were both in double figures for the S-T girls at 12 and 11 points, respectively. Gabbert also pulled down 10 rebounds for a “double-double” in the win.

Courtney Vandever and Devon Wilder followed with seven tallies apiece. Alexis Schmidt supplied six while D’Anne Wilder came in with five. Rachel Mengers scored four and Tabatha Crow contributed three. Brittany Garcia made one free throw.

The S-T girls were in Odem last night (Friday) to meet the Lady Owls. The Lady Cats will continue their road trip next week with two games away from home. Tuesday will find the S-T ladies in Taft and on Friday night they will travel to Banquete.
