The project, which includes restoration of the west wall of the Karnes County Courthouse, began in November of 2011 immediately after voters approved the $4 million courthouse restoration bond to be used for Phase 2.
The Phase 1 project is being funded by the $617,000 emergency grant Karnes County received in January of 2010 in the round 6 of the Texas Historical Commission grant program along with $309,000 in matching funds from the county.
The Phase 1 project is expected to be complete in September.
Karnes County plans to apply again for grPhase 2 grant funding in the 2013 round 8 THC grant funding cycle.
