This week, Mayor Ray Jaso announced the schedule of events for the Town of Refugio’s July 4th Celebration set for Saturday, June 30, at the Refugio County Fairgrounds. Mark your calendars and join the fun.

Refugio’s schedule of events

10:30 a.m. Open Ceremonies by Mayor Ray Jaso will conduct followed by the National Anthem and Raising of Flag by VFW Post 6290, Pledge of Allegiance, Taps for Military in Iraq and others, This Old Flag and Arts, Crafts and Food Venders booths will open.

11 a.m. Frog Jump Contest-youth and adult, kiddie parade(ages 1-5 and 6-10), music by D.J Tommy Ponce

1 p.m. Salsa Contest-adults, Egg Toss (youth 5-13, adult 14 and up), Horseshoe pitch-contact Steve Castellano 649-3846

2 p.m. Pie baking contest, Bingo from 2-4 p.m., Balloon toss (youth 5-13 yrs, adults 14 and up), music by DJ Clifford Smith

3 p.m. Three-legged race (youth 5-13, adults 14 and up)

3:30 p.m. Tug of war (youth 5-13, adults 14 and up)

4 p.m. Ladies rollin’ pin throw (ages 55-65, 66 and up)

4:30 p.m. Pickle Eating Contest, youth only 6-13, minimum two pickles

5:30 p.m. Jalepeno Eating contest-adults, must sign entry form plus a $25 entry fee

9 p.m. Fireworks Display

Vendors may pick up an application at the City Hall. A $20 fee will be charged for a 10x10 space. For more information call 526-5361.
