Refugio Bobcat stalwart lineman Wayne "Kupa" Frazier signed to play ball with the University of Texas-El Paso on Feb. 4. Kupa, as his teammates call him, is 6 feet, 5 inches tall, weighs 300 pounds, and he can run the 40-yard dash in 5.2 seconds.

Refugio Athletic Director Jason Herring says "that's crazy good."

"Kupa is big, strong, physical and he can move," Herring said. "What a great kid! I don't know anybody who doesn't love Kupa."

The lineman takes accelerated, honors classes and has earned a scholarship to one of the best universities in the state, Herring said.

Frazier was an instrumental force in the Bobcats' two-years of perfect district seasons and the run to the 2A Division II Region IV finals this year.

"Kupa leads by example," Herring said. "He smiles and cuts up but when it's time to go to work, he's all business."
