The Lady Cats needed to polish off the visiting Bloomington Ladycats on Tuesday night to complete another perfect, 10-0, undefeated run through their district foes. Overall, the Lady Cats stand at 23-9 on the season through Friday’s game.
It was all Lady Bulldogs over the first eight minutes on Friday night. The home team jumped out to a 12-6 advantage by the end of the first period and looked to be on their way to a possible upset.
“Banquete got off to a good start against us, but the girls kept their composure and battled back. In the second quarter, the Lady Cats took control of the game by pushing the ball up the court and playing some great defense for the win and the district championship,” said Lady Cat head coach Joseph Grimes III.
The Lady Cats clamped down defensively the rest of the way and their pressure led to a comeback that had the game all even at 17 as the halftime buzzer sounded.
The second half belonged to the Lady Cats as their defense led the way. S-T outscored Banquete 23-6 over the final two periods and eased in with a 40-23 victory.
Rachel Mengers led the S-T scoring with 19 points. Ashley Scott followed with 11. Alexis Schmidt had four on the night as did Courtney Vandever. Devon Wilder completed the S-T scoring with two.
The junior varsity game also went to the visiting young Lady Cats, 38-32.
