RHS debate teams dominate district meet

Two Refugio High School cross-examination debate teams advanced to state and two scored points at the District 30-AA contest in Skidmore on Jan.29.

One team is designated as the alternate to state and one team placed fifth. The team coach is Terresa M. Fagan.

Taking first place and advancing to the UIL State CX Competition March 16 and 17 are Jacob Cobb and Daniel Shay. Cobb also won Most Valuable Speaker honors. Cobb and Shay had perfect win scores with no losses.

Also advancing to the state meet as the second place team are Katie Bernal and Kristen Wise. Bernal and Wise had a 4 wins, 1 loss record.

Named State Alternate Team as the third place winners are Kyle Hendley and Jarred Sternadel, with a 3 win, 2 loss record.

Also placing in the top six teams, Madi Preston and Stephanie Ordaz took fifth place.
