A new event is being added to the county fair for outdoor cookers from across the state. An International Barbeque Cookers Association sanctioned cookoff will be held on March 13 and 14 to benefit the Crazy Cookers Scholarship.

Hosted by Rene and Irene Reyna and Monica Flores, who are well-known throughout the IBCA circle, the cookoff will feature six categories including brisket, 1/2 jointed chicken, pork spare ribs, jackpot road kill of the chef’s choice, jackpot margarita stand-off, and a jackpot bean contest.

Early entry by Feb. 28 is $100 and late entries are $120. Entries forms with fees may be mailed to Crazy Cookers Scholarship Group, P.O. Box 242, Refugio TX 78377.

“This is the first of what we hope will be an annual event at the county fair,” Rene said. “We’ve been participating in IBCA cookoffs for eight or nine years and we’ve been wanting to do this for a long time.”

All proceeds will go to the scholarship fund.
