The Skidmore-Tynan 8th grade basketball team was undefeated, with a two-year record of 26 wins and zero losses when they arrived in Refugio. They left town with 26 wins and their first loss.

The Refugio Bobcats played some of their best basketball of the year, both offensively and defensively in the victory, said Coach Donald Patton.

“This game was won on the defensive side of the ball and none played better “D” than Draigon and Cameron did.” Patton said.

The coach was referring to Draigon Silvas and Cameron Sternadel and the outstanding job they did in shutting down Skidmore-Tynan’s best player.

Refugio opened the game by scoring the first 9 points. They led 12-4 at halftime. Conner Lowrie helped blow the game open in the third quarter by scoring 9 of his game high 14 points. John Wesley Shipp scored 10 points on the night and added 6 assists.

“I was extremely impressed with how well John Wesley passed the ball, it made us a better team,” said Coach Patton.

Also scoring two points each were Jack Gumm, Sternadel, Dustin Paceley and Colton Carroll.

The 8th grade boys closed out their season Monday, Feb. 9, in Bloomington.
