The Refugio Bobcats finished the basketball season with back-to-back victories to earn another trip to the state basketball playoffs.

This marks the fifth consecutive year the Bobcats have made the playoffs.

Irvin Fox led the team with 17 rebounds and M. Brown had 8 assists.

Defensive standouts were Cory Brown and M. Brown.

The Bobcats finished the season with a hard earned road win against Bloomington. The final score was 76-57. Dylan Myers led the team with 22 points. Marquis Brown scored 17 and Matt Mascorro added 12. Irvin Fox scored 9, Cory Brown, 8; Brent Williams, 4.

Tanner Myers and Donald Trevino both scored two points. Fox lead the team again with 14 rebounds and M. Brown had 6 assists.

Coach Joe Rios had high praise for his team.

“I’m proud of these kids,” Rios said. “They deserve to go to the playoffs. They play hard every night and always give a great effort.”

The Bobcats will face Industrial-Vanderbilt for the bi-district championship in Victoria on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The time has yet to be determined.

“It should be a good game,” Rios said. “They beat us by four points at their place earlier in the year but we are a much better team now. I know our team is looking forward to the rematch.”
