Basketball commences at Boys & Girls Club

The Refugio Boys & Girls Club youth basketball played its first game at Refugio Elementary School on Friday, Jan. 30. The Lil J’s defeated the Refugio Bobcats 14-6.

Kaleb Wright led the team with 8 points, Jaren Ortiz, Thomas Chavez and Damien Chavez each added 2 points.

The Lady Hot Shots and LSU Tigers played at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Refugio High School gym. The Hot Shots came out on top.

Top basket was Kiasha Brown with 14 points; Felicia Wills, 10; Jasmine Perez, Alyssa Varela and Kaitlyn Valderrama each added 4 each; Megan Simmons, 3 po. Baskets for the Tigers were Taylor Nixon, Anna Vega and Adrianna Vega, 2 each.

At 10 a.m. the Dream Team defeated the Spurs 50-11.

Top baskets for the Dream Team were Anfernee Friar with 15 points; Kobe Green, 11, Ty Castellano, 10; Andrew Ramero, 8; Johnathan Rosas, 4; Isaac Wollem, 2.

Scoring for the Spurs were Rogelio Arriaga with 4 points; Jarret Wren, Trevor Starr, Santiago Garcia, 2 each, Derick Pena, 1.

The Sassy 7 defeated the Shox 24-0 during the 11 am. game.

Top baskets for the Sassy 7 were Paige Wiginton 10, Vira Villarreal 8, Tess Perez, Bralyn Fox and Allie Coscetti 2 each.

The Warriors and Dream Team took the court at 12 p.m. playing neck and neck the whole game, the Warriors came out on top winning 40-36.

Scoring for the Warriors were J.T. Moya with 12 points; Elyah Oliver, 10; Omni Olivia, 8’ Marcus Sanchez, 4, Anthony Delgado, Brent Wendel, Jasen Quesada, 2 each.

Top basket for the Dream Team was Andrew Pamero with 9 points,; Johnathan Rosas, 7; Robert Frazier and Anfernee Friar, 6 points each; Isaac Wollom, 4; Kobe Green, 3; Ty Castellano, 1.

The Lady Hot Shots were the winners of the 1 p.m. against the Bullets, with a score of 19-6,

Scorers for the Bullets were Paige Gonzalez, Kaitlyn Williams, Taylor Tuttle each scored 2 points.
