County, municipalities put name in the hat for $29 million of stimulus package money

The county submitted approximately $29,031,865 worth of projects to Congressman Ruben Hinojosa for consideration for the Amercan Recover and Reinvestment Program as passed by the House of Representatives last week.

County Judge Rene Mascorro was contacted by Hinojosa’s office and asked to submit the list of projects that may be funded under the program.

The commissioners approved the list during a regular meeting Tuesday and forwarded the list to the congressman’s office.

The town of Refugio requested $9,017,500 to improve drainage and make street repairs and the fire department requested $81,179 for a small brush truck with four-wheel drive; and $245,000 for a radio paging system to enable all five volunteer fire departments to receive and monitor all communications throughout the county.

The city of Austwell requested $1,400,000 to regrade ditches, install culverts and outfalls; $500,000 to replace its existing two-inch water lines with six-ince lines and adding fire hydrants; $136,000 for emergency response equipment for the fire department; and $1,400,000 to reconstruct city streets.

Bayside requested $2,939,220 to replace 10.4 miles of crumbling, 50-year-old roads and three substandard bridges.

Woodsboro requested $8,450,000 in street repairs and drainage improvements; and $3,103,369 in sewer line improvements; and the Woodsboro Fire Department requested $22,300 for a quick attack fire truck with four-wheel drive; and $170,000 for a 2,000 gallon tanker truck

The county requested $202,000 for a pumper truck for the Tivoli Fire Department; $141,866 to provide for the removal of the existing two-lane Dedear Bridge and replacement with a widened two-lane bridge that includes shoulders and guard rails; $4,276,800 to replace 20 miles of crumbling, 50-year-old roads.
