Seventh grade Bobcats dominate Sinton for final season victory

The Refugio seventh grade basketball team ended its season the same way they started it ­- with a dominating victory.

They were the champions of the Refugio and Sinton tournament, most importantly they were the district champions.

Refugio jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and then cruised to a 28-6 victory.

Anthony Villareal was the leading point scorer with 20. Travis Quintanilla scored 17, hitting four three-pointers along the way.

Jonathan Brown added 12; Shane Jochetz, 2.

“These boys have now had an undefeated football season and an undefeated basketball season,” said Coach Jacob Ray. “Something tells me to expect good things as we begin track season.”

The eight grade boys ended their very successful basketball season with a 33-22 victory over Bloomington last Monday night.

Scoring for Refugio were John W. Shipp with 12 points; Draigon Silvas, 5 points including a very long 3 pointer just before the half.

Conner Lowrie, Jack Gumm and Cameron Sternadel each scored 4 points; Malcom Franklin, and Colton Carroll, 2 points each.

Others playing in the ball-game were Logan Myers, Marcos Thompson, Chris Williams, Dustin Paceley and Jacob Solis.

Defensive standouts were Logan Myers, Jack Gumm, Cameron Sternadel and Draigon Silvas.

The boys team record was 10-4 with one tournament championship, one runner-up, and tied for second in their district.
