Eugene McGuill, of Roswell, N.M. and formerly of Refugio, died at 8:30 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2009, after a long illness.

McGuill was a Army veteran of World War II. He worked for county surveyor Phil Young following his service in the Army, then he worked for Republic Oil Company until he retired.

McGuill was born in Blanconia to a pioneer Refugio family, former Refugio County Judge T.W. and Lucy McGuill on Oct. 1, 1920.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Herring McGuill who died in 2000.

A memorial service will be held later at a date and time to be determined later.
