Santos served his country in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Army. He obtained the rank of Sgt. and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was an original member of the Tivoli Volunteer Fire Dept for 42 years, and served as Assistant Fire Chief for 30 years.
He was born in Tivoli on Nov. 29, 1947, to Amador and Guadalupe Garza Huerta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, Rudolpho, Amador Jr., and Emerico Huerta; and two nieces, Marian Kay Smith and Angelia Gamez Adkins.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Barrientos Huerta of Tivoli; sisters, Berta (Richard) Smith, and Delia (Frank) Gamez, all of Victoria; and brothers, Frank (Sue) Huerta of Victoria and Rudy (Anita) Huerta of Tivoli.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Tivoli.
Burial was in Tivoli Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of the V.F.W. Post 9282.
Pallbearers were members of the Tivoli Volunteer Fire Dept. and the E.M.S.; Arnulfo Perez, Jorge Zamora, Luciano Gomez, Maria Siller, Edward Bernal, William Maddux, Vickki Maddux, Marcus Torres and Rudy Huerta.
