Eagles, Lady Eagles garner district basketball awards

The Pettus Eagles and Lady Eagles earned well-deserved postseason basketball honors from the District 31-A coaches.

On the boys’ side, freshman Hunter Tomlin was named the district’s Newcomer of the Year for his fine play this season for head coach Steve Marbach.

Point guard Aaron Escamilla was selected to the first team all-district squad by the coaches. McKinzie Torres was named to the all-district second team while Ryan Beck and Michael Perkins attained honorable mention status for the Eagles.

The academic all-district squad had Eagles Escamilla, Beck and Tomlin making the grade.

The Lady Eagles were represented on the all-district first team by Jessica Stanley and Victoria (“Tori”) Garza. Second team all-district honors went to Sarah Gill and Lindsay P.

The Lady Eagles were named to the honorable mention list as Paige Fox, Chloe Garza and Hailee Schauer were selected for their play this season.

Seven Lady Eagles maintained at least a 90 average in the classroom as well as playing for head coach Erica Garza.

The academic all-district players from Pettus included Gill, Victoria Garza, Fox, Adriana De Leon, Lindsay P., Schauer and Chloe Garza.
