WHS powerlifters heading to state competition

Laura McGuill and Liz Hernandez both competed extremely well this past weekend at the girls regional powerlifting meet. Both ladies had their biggest total of the year, with both girls qualifying to compete at state on March 21 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.

Laura had a squat of 260 lbs., bench of 105 lbs, and dead lift of 270 lbs., totaling 635 lbs.

Liz had a squat of 350 lbs., bench of 175 lbs, and dead lift of 325 lbs.

“These ladies have been working extremely hard this year, and it is paying off for them,” said Coach Amy Ramsey.

Eight boys qualified for the regional powerlifting meet this weekend. The meet will be held in Kingsville at JK Northway Coliseum on Saturday March 14, 2009.

Qualifying for the regional meet are Gino Dodge, Tomas Canchola, Bo Adams, Dylan Klare, Taylor Henning, Rudy Solis, Josh Newman, and Randy Harvey.
