The president spoke of reaching out in his victory speech Tuesday night and we can only hope now that he means it.
The fiscal cliff is approaching – if we haven’t already gone beyond the point of no return – and we must address it. There’s not enough tax revenue left in our dwindling economy to pay for Obama’s programs without inflicting a potentially deadly blow to our economy.
As one pundit put it, we’re choosing free stuff over our own freedoms.
We can only hope that there is movement in Washington, D.C., to stabilize the economy. Perhaps, a federal budget – you know, like the one prescribed in the Constitution – for the first time in three years would be a good place to start.
We sincerely wish President Obama, Congress and, most importantly, all Americans – those currently employed and those looking for jobs – tremendous success in uniting this country and turning around our financial situation over the next four years.
On the local front, congratulations to the county’s contested race winners, Sheriff Carlos Carrizales, County Attorney Mike Knight and County Commissioner Eloy Rodriguez. All three Democratic incumbents survived the Republican wave which carried others like Ted Cruz, U.S. senator, and J.M. Lozano, state representative, to victory in this state.
Carrizales edged longtime lawman Bill Lazenby by only 55 votes; Knight easily defeated newcomer Juan Eduardo Garcia, an assistant DA; and Rodriguez downed challenger Dennis Phipps.
We hope the victors will do their best at their important positions and serve the county’s residents in a professional and impartial manner.

I'm sorry you're feeling down about the Obama victory, but I understand as I went through two W victories, both of them either stolen, or so filled with Swift Boat lies as to border on stolen. I feel your pain. Unfortunately, the Bush tax cuts of the past eight years have not improved the economy because the super rich, who were the benefits of those cuts have not created any jobs. Instead, middle-men, stock brokers and others who live on commissions have seen their wealth grow astronomically. The good old days you pine for were run by men and women who employed workers, paid twice as much in income tax, yet still lived wealthy but not as a sultan or a king would.
I ask you this. Does a coal miner work any less harder than a stock trader or a shareholder? I understand the whole risk-taking side of the argument, but to earn 25,000 times more than the worker? To manipulate stock prices and drive up the cost of goods while doing nothing but pushing a button? Historically, management earned about 24 times what the Worker earned.
I'm not saying wealth needs to be regulated, but excessive wealth (in this case $20,000 per week net, not gross), should at least be taxed. I know what my tax bill will be when I eventually sell my various stocks. But I just pushed the "buy" button, I didn't get any blisters, bruises or even put in gas to get to work. End the Bush tax cuts and get the U.S. out of debt.

Did you hear that rich people voted for Romney because he promised to give them stuff? Cut the capital gains tax rate to zero. Reduce corporate tax rates by 20%. Approve the Trans-Canada pipeline while environmental studies were still being conducted. The list goes on...

As I write this, I fear that "We" have lost a meaningful chunk of a great country. The America I've loved is no more. Or at least it is "less." And in 4 years, it will probably be much less. This was a tipping point election -- one where the minorities that will become majorities made the difference. Conservatism as I know it is basically dead.
The flags I own and have flown on celebratory days over the years have lost some of their meaning. Their stars are fading. We are no longer 50 states. We are a now big state with several coastal principalities run by people we don't know, but who know what's best for us.
And they will soon tell us what we need to believe. The Big Mac is on life support.
Our government is destined to gridlock us into the abyss. And while that happens, substantive aspects of society will be molded not by law, but by executive order and bureaucratic decision. A structural change to our government will emerge that will manage us like marionettes from places like DC and Sacramento, more so than we could imagine in the worst of Orwell's and Rand"s scenarios. I won't live to see the modernization of Society that a reconfigured Supreme Court will bequeath. My grandchildren will if America lasts.
My love of country touches every part of my life, from the non-revisionist history I read, the flags I fly and collect, the parades I attend, to the heroes I worship. My country's soul has been in the process of change for decades. Much of it like civil rights for the good. Religious rights are being coalesced into a politically acceptable scheme of no reds and greens, Kwansas, and holiday trees. It now seems like America is destined to be unrecognizable to the likes of me in short order. I feel like I did when I lost my father. I can't fix what has happened. Sadly, I have to sit back and watch.
It's all about who's taking us down this slippery slope. What happened last night after the disastrous experiment of the past 4 years emphasizes this change in values and its depth.
Not that Romney was a Ronald Reagan, but he was a man of honor, integrity, experience, moderation, substance, success, and acumen. We could look at his record, his life and his family and know him and how he has become the man he is. We knew how he thinks. We knew from where he came, and could predict where he'd take us. How will America ever again convince someone who has spawned great success in private life, a life that can be examined without taint, to ever run for high office? We are doomed to politicos and cronies of the worst kind based upon how this man was denigrated by his opponent and the Media during this campaign. The way he's been treated saddens me.
Ah yes, the Media. Fox read the tea leaves wrong. The NY Times, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MS*** didn"t tell the story...again, or created a positive enough story to blurr the truth of our situation. We are poorly served either way. Each is partisan, but Fox is more honest -- at least there's a semblance of both sides having a say.
Regardless, we now face 4 more years of being led by a man who we really don't know, who spins everything to his political advantage, and who is backed by who knows? By his hand, this country has never been more divided into "social" splinters of all causes and kinds. Our foreign policy is an inconsistent and anemic mess. Our military is surely demoralized regardless of what they say. The Benghazi fiasco and it's 2 months of contrivances and diversion is a sad testimony to the Media's morality. And more importantly, to our president's. The mullahs and Hezbollah can now conduct their Muslim subversion in relative calm until their bomb is ready. A nuclear Mid-East is in the offing.
And of course there's the Economy. Last night I texted my daughter Julie that now our children have free birth control and 50% of their inheritance. DC gets the other 50%. Actually it will be much less as the dollar shrinks and markets continue to stagnate as the government spends and prints. If it was the Economy that was the issue, the vote didn't consider it because America just gave its wheel to a man who doesn't have a plan, doesn't understand how America's engine works, and wants to fundamentally (there's that word again) change America to some version of Europe --hopefully not Greece!
Actually, the Economy didn't count in the end because half of us don't care about it. Half of us are producers who help create jobs, work, pay taxes, and don't see Uncle Sam as their safety net. The other half collects, uses services they don't pay for, or works for the government and sees a pensioned horizon. We are truly a nation of consumers and much of what's consumed is basically free and distributed at the government trough. We know it as redistribution, entitlements or now as "stash." Where are you Margaret Thatcher?
But the saddest thing of all to me is the arrogance we will have to face from our Leader and his minions over the next 4 years. I guess if I knew who he really was, or if he'd answer a question in less than 20 paragraphs, or if he'd say something other than he'll study it and get back to me, or if he'd learn to use the corporate "we" instead of "I", I'd feel better. But then again, would I believe him or trust him? I doubt it. I also hate the debasement of the Office by his Hollywood associations, rappers, sports icons, strange leftists, the Unions, and his misuse of time and perks. The presidency is not a TV show that needs to have celebrity walk ons every week.
I weep for the America I knew:

The one that didn't think everything needed to be fixed.

Cuts in Medicare and Doctor's payments. Small businesses opting out of providing healthcare. Where are you going to find a doctor that will treat your elderly family members? Grandma have a serious illness? No treatment for her. Obama will give her end of life counseling. Encourage her to pick out a nice plot in one of the local cemeteries. Just be quick about it. An insurance expansion with a reduction in providers. Get ready for a medical nightmare.
So, how many of you lefties are planning a Ski/Pot trip to Colorado? Break a leg.

So wish me great success, and I will make sure that your checks, medicare and food stamps keep you healthy and happy in your golden years. Green fees, bullets, flack jackets, night vision goggles and bowling costs will still have to be paid for out of your personal bank account, but now you'll have plenty of time to supplement your food supply with a bit of recreational fishing and hunting.
