Cindy Lopez Fernandez filed to run for Place 5 on the Woodsboro City Council. She released the following statement:
“I am interested in being a member of the Woodsboro City Council because I am concerned about the future of our community and I am interested in making Woodsboro a city of growth.
“Small business is the lifeline of our economy in Woodsboro and I understand the challenges which the business community faces on a daily basis very well. I assisted my mother, Minnie Lopez, with sales and the marketing plans of her small business, Buenos Dias Bakery.
“Also, through my position as a high school teacher in several school districts and community colleges, I assisted with the career preparations of young children and witnessed their success in businesses and colleges.
As a member of the city council, I would help to foster entrepreneurship and business development in Woodsboro, thus creating a better future for the children of Woodsboro. I would also work to ensure that city information and services are open, transparent and customer-friendly and that these would be made available online for public viewing by all.
“I have strong working class values as well as deep faith because of my parents and this wonderful community which nurtured me and my family.
“I believe our city needs informed leadership that listens to its citizens. I really want to serve my community and I would be the kind of public servant who would advocate for public involvement and listen to innovative ideas. I can think of no greater honor than serving the people of Woodsboro as a member of the city council.
“Fernandez is a graduate of Woodsboro High School, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. Her undergraduate degree was in business administration and her graduate degrees in education.
“Fernandez’ work experience includes Laredo Community College, ARAMCO, Dioceses of Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, Robstown I.S.D., Woodsboro I.S.D., and Northside I.S.D.
“She retired in June 2008. She is a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Guadalupanas. Fernandez is the daughter of the late Max and Minnie Lopez.”
