Linda Smith Nesloney, 71, of Belmont and formerly of Refugio, lost her long battle against pancreatic cancer on Sunday, Dec. 16, at her home. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Luling ISD, Huffman in Houston ISD and Seguin ISD.
She attended school in Refugio, where she met her future husband, Robert Lee Nesloney. They were married June 26, 1960. She received her B.S. Degree in business and English at Texas A&I in Kingsville.
She was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Wharton, to Charles L. And Bessie D. Gresham Smith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles L. Smith; her mother Bessie D. Swinnea; step-father Tom H. Swinnea; and brothers Tom Henry Swinnea, who was killed in Vietnam, and Robert S. Swinnea.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Robert L. Nesloney; sons Robert Nesloney Jr. and wife Laurie, and Jason Nesloney and wife Shelly; six granddaughters; and four grandsons.
Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m, Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. James Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Raaz officiating.
Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Jerry Gray, Jerry Gray II, Charles Nesloney, George Nesloney, Doug Nesloney and Clint Nesloney.
Honorary pallbearers include Todd Nesloney, Chase Nesloney, Johnny W. Nesloney, Ralph Swinnea, Donald Swinnea and Justin Harvey.
