PETTUS — The District 14-1A football coaches recently released their all-district awards, and the Pettus Eagles, despite a tough season, came up with several players garnering postseason honors.

Running back Casey Jones was named to the district first team offense for his season with the Eagles. Joining Jones on the first team were wide receiver Anthony Mendoza and offensive linemen Matt Gonzales and Connor Fox.

Jones was also named to the district’s first team defense at safety. Zach Gonzales was named to the first defensive squad as a defensive lineman, and cornerback John Constante made it a trio of Eagles on the defensive first team for head coach Dan Garza.

Named to the second team offense were Eagle quarterback John Grayson and utility player Zach Gonzales. Second team defensive stalwarts included Connor Fox on the defensive line and inside linebacker Matt Gonzales. Josh Herrera was named to the second team defense as a punter.

Eagles making the honorable mention list on offense included running back John Constante, tight end Kyle McJunkins and fullback Josh Herrera.

Several Eagles also performed very well on the field and in the classroom, making the Academic All-District team. An athlete must be in good standing on the varsity football team and maintain a 90 or above average in the classroom to attain a spot on this prestigious squad of student/athletes.

Making the grade for the Eagles were John Grayson, Casey Jones, C.J. Cruz, Nick Coester, Sean Leal, Seth Harris, Diego Delgado, Samuel Cano, Connor Fox, Lane Kruger and Kyle McJunkins.
