BAYSIDE — Michael B. Collins will present the most recent evidence for the peopling of the Americas 14,000 to 15,000 years ago from evidence unearthed in Texas.

Collins will address the Bayside Historical Society at its quarterly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Bayside Community Center at 909 First Street in Bayside.

The meeting will be followed by a question and answer period, refreshments and a drawing for a door prize. The meeting is open to the public. For additional information, call 361-529-8944.

Collins is one of the preeminent archeologists working in Texas and has been leading a team excavating the Gault site in central Texas for the past fifteen years.

The Gault site has been occupied since the last Ice Age. The finds at this and other central Texas sites have implications for the human colonization of the Western hemisphere.

Do not miss this opportunity to hear one of the archeologists on the cutting edge of research in this vital topic of the earliest colonization of the Americas.
