CALALLEN — The shooting woes continue for the Trojan varsity basketball team as the host Wildcats walloped the Trojans 61-25 on Friday night.

“We were never in the game – we got behind early and never recovered. We did not play with the same intensity that we did earlier in the season,” said head coach Mike Luce.

The Trojans have failed to score over 40 points in any of their last four contests, and the District 30-4A foes have taken advantage and posted big wins against the Beeville boys. The Trojans stand at 2-6 in district and are out of playoff contention.

The Wildcats started strong and posted a 16-6 lead by the end of the first eight minutes. The Trojans managed just four points in the second quarter while the Wildcats ran up and down the court for 15 markers to coast to a 31-10 lead at the halftime break.

The cold spell the Trojans are under continued into the third period, and the Beeville boys could score only five points while the Wildcats burned the nets for 20 points to put the game way out of reach.

The two squads each added 10 points in the final quarter.

Brent Reyna finished with 11 points. Cameron Kremers made eight. Both Lucas Glew and Hunter Hardy each had three.

The Beeville boys played host to the Tuloso-Midway Warriors on Tuesday evening and will be at home again on Friday night when the Gregory-Portland Wildcats visit Beeville.

“We do have two home games this week, and, hopefully, we can find a little spark somewhere,” Luce said.
