PETTUS — The Falls City Beaver had too big a bite on Tuesday night as they dealt the hometown Eagles a 50-38 loss.

“Our poor shooting and inability to control the boards sealed the outcome of the game,” said Pettus head coach Tony Ferguson.

Falls City opened well, but the Eagles had trouble finding their shots. The Beavers captured a good lead by out-scoring Pettus 11-4 in the first period and never trailed after the opening eight minutes. It was a 24-15 game at the half, and the Beavers led 32-22 going into the final quarter. The pace quickened over the final eight minutes as both teams found their shooting touches. The Beavers hit for 18 fourth quarter points, and the Eagles added 16 markers to their side of the score board. The final was all Beavers 50-38.

Eric Montez led the eagles with 14 points. John Grayson followed with seven markers while C.J. Cruz hit for six points. Clay Brown contributed five points, and Matt Gonzales added four tallies. Kyle McJunkins closed out the Eagle scoring with two points.

“I am very proud of the effort and team work displayed by our young men. We kept the game close but just couldn’t close the gap on Falls City,” said Ferguson.

The Eagles were in Three Rivers on Friday night to meet the Bulldogs and will close out their hoop season on Tuesday night when the Kenedy lions roar into town.
