On Feb. 5, National Signing Day, Aaron Sowell committed to a back to back Football Championship Subdivision finalist Sam Houston State Bearkats. Aaron is the son of Doug and Tina Sowell originally from Three Rivers and the grandson of Arturo and Mary Ruiz, Jose and Emma Aguero and Gloria Schmidt all from Three Rivers.

Sowell, #68 is the offensive lineman for the Katy Tigers, a program that has won 7 Texas State Football titles. His future has always been set around football. As a sophomore, Sowell had colleges eyeing his every move. After an injury set him back a bit, the 6’1”, 276 pound Sowell had to work hard in the weight room to build up his strength, but nothing stood in his way. Sowell, a three year starter was named Unanimous All-District his Sr. season , a member of the 2012 5A State Championship team and 2012 Team Captain. Aaron was accompanied by his parents and younger sister Tristian “TK” Sowell on the signing day. He is set to start school on July 8 as a Bearkat and is very excited to be fulfilling one of his dreams, one he has worked so hard and long for. Sam Houston State University was founded in 1879 and is the third oldest public institution of higher learning in the State of Texas located in Huntsville.
